Manchester United have parted ways
with manager Erik ten Hag following a disappointing start to the Premier League
season.
The decision comes after Sunday's
2-1 defeat to West Ham United, leaving the Red Devils in 14th place in the
league table. Ten Hag, who had his contract extended in the summer, has
struggled to turn the club's fortunes around.
Ruud van Nistelrooy, a former United
striker, will take over as interim manager. He is expected to lead the team in
the Carabao Cup tie against Leicester City on Wednesday.
Sources suggest that United's
decision to sack ten Hag was influenced by a series of poor results and
performances, both this season and last. The club's eighth-place finish in the
previous campaign and their slow start to the current season were major
factors.
Despite extending ten Hag's contract
in the summer, following a surprise FA Cup final victory over Manchester City,
United's board ultimately lost faith in his ability to deliver success.
The club has already begun the
search for a new permanent manager, with Thomas Tuchel and Gareth Southgate
among the names being considered. However, Tuchel has since been appointed as
England's national team manager, leaving Southgate as a potential option.
